The Daily News is an American newspaper based in Jersey City, New Jersey. It was founded in 1919 by Joseph Medill Patterson as the Illustrated Daily News and is primarily a morning tabloid. As of 2019,[update] it is the eleventh-largest-circulated newspaper in the United States.

Despite the decline in its circulation, the Daily News has maintained its reputation as an independent and reliable source of news in the United States. It is a major competitor with the New York Post and maintains strong coverage of local politics, sports, and news events.

Although the Daily News was a staunchly Republican newspaper in its early years, it began to shift its stance towards more moderate views during the 1960s. By the 1990s, it was considered to be a moderately liberal alternative to the New York Post.

Building: 450 West 33rd Street

The News moved from its original home at 220 East 42nd Street in 1929 to 450 West 33rd Street, which was designed by John Mead Howells and Raymond Hood. It is a New York City landmark and was the model for the Daily Planet in the first two Superman films.
