Entertaiment is a broad term that encompasses entertainment from the personal experience of listening to music, watching films and reading books in solitude or with friends, to entertaining large groups with performances, games and events. The word is rooted in the idea of entertaining, or holding inside, an idea and allowing it to float with other ideas. The power of this idea is demonstrated by the Scheherazade story in professional storytelling traditions, which has inspired re-tellings as orchestral pieces by Rimsky-Korsakov, Ravel and others; a film by Pasolini and other directors; and an innovative video game. Entertaiment is a very diverse and flexible art form.
